Set Max Quantity to be Ordered on a Product

Our business has a need to set a maximum quantity to be ordered on certain products on our website.

Example - we have 100 in a SKU, but only want each customer to be able to order 2.

It would be nice if we can set this up somewhere in the Console.

In Q1 2024 we are planning on updating our base product properties to include a max quantity field that will follow pattern currently available for the min order quantity at the order level.

    • What is the timeframe that the max quantity field should be honored (is it per purchase, per month, per quarter, etc): Some of the customers, we've worked with want the max quantity set by date range they want to manage in the admin console so I'd say allow users to enter a date far out in the future as the expiration date.

    • Should Max Quantity be configurable per customer? (are different customers or users allowed to purchase more than others for example) From what we've heard, this is rule applies to all users and customers i.e. product has the same max quantity for everyone.

    • Is this at the user ship-to level, user level, customer bill-to/ship-to level? (if someone with same username tries to purchase for different address for example, or if one-time address is enabled what logic would they want to use to ensure additional orders aren't slipping through?): These would be at the ship-to level and not allowed for one-time addresses.

I believe I entered this when we were working with a client during the pandemic who wanted to implement limiting order quantity to 2 for an item. Thank you for merging my request https://feedback.optimizely.com/ideas/B2BCOM-I-504

Thank you for submitting this request! We have added this item to our backlog for future consideration and prioritization.

If any interested customers would like to add comments with regards to how they would want to manage this type of control it would be useful for future planning. Questions I can think of:

    • What is the timeframe that the max quantity field should be honored (is it per purchase, per month, per quarter, etc)

    • Should Max Quantity be configurable per customer? (are different customers or users allowed to purchase more than others for example)

    • Is this at the user ship-to level, user level, customer bill-to/ship-to level? (if someone with same username tries to purchase for different address for example, or if one-time address is enabled what logic would they want to use to ensure additional orders aren't slipping through?)
