I can confirm that the current design was intentional to prevent scanning from triggering when it should not especially for use cases where there are numerous barcodes to select from in close proximity.
If we implement something to allow autoscan it would likely include a setting that could be optionally enabled to ensure that it does not cause any breaking changes to existing workflows.
We have added this item to our backlog for future consideration and prioritization.

1. Have barcode scan as soon as it sees a bar code. No need to tap the scan button.
2. Have the barcode deep link to the product
