Allow developers to directly access databases in lower level environments

As a developer, allowing direct database access to lower level environments, such as integration, to troubleshoot issues or run queries to confirm schema/validate data. Direct access allows developers to do this quickly and efficiently, as the current ways of working with exports can be very cumbersome and time consuming for large databases.

Completely agree with this. Our integration databases quite large and time consuming to download, extending bug investigation and analysis. Also, we now have to offset database actions, such as critical, multi-step data anonymisation to the Optimizely support team.

Totally agree, it can be an enormous challenge to work quickly and efficiently in what are effectively developer-owned environments if the database access is heavily restricted for no good reason - feels a lot like asking developers to make bricks with straw! A 5 minute job becomes an 8 hour job with potential data security risks when we ask developers to download a 2GB database, mount locally on the laptop, just to run a query.
