Deleting Commerce Catalog items warning does not tell you if what you are deleting is referenced anywhere

When you delete a Page or Block in the CMS, a dialog box is shown that informs the user everywhere the items being deleted are referenced.

In Commerce Catalog, if you attempt to delete an item you only receive the warning below. It does not inform the user if what they are deleting is referenced anywhere.

'Are you sure you want to delete the selected item/items? This action cannot be undone.'

This caused quite a major issue recently for our client when a number of CMS pages stopped functioning correctly due to a referenced Commerce node being removed.

Can the same useful warning when deleting items in CMS also be used when deleting items in Commerce Catalog?

@Tom Interesting! Can you elaborate a bit on how it works?

Previous attempts to solve this went pretty bad iirc, and it had to be changed to an opt-in feature (that wasn't useful in reality).

If I am not mistaken, all links to content (including Commerce content) is tracked in tblContentSoftlink, and any attempt to delete content should check this table for any references - just like CMS already do.

    Hi Tom,

Thanks for your response. We are currently using EPiServer.Commerce version 13.33.0. Does Optimizely have any plans to develop a solution compatible with this version?

Additionally, according to the NuGet Package Manager, the latest stable version of EPiServer.Commerce is 14.20.0. Could you guide me on where to find version 14.21.0?

    Best regards,
    Lisa

    Hi Team,

What does the status "Shipped" mean?

    Best regards,
    Lisa

As part of the Archive release (14.21.0), we have introduced referencing to catalog items that may be impacted as part of the archive (i.e. soft delete) process.
