WCAG 2.1 compliant EpiServer Forms

Current version of EpiServer Forms is not WCAG 2.1 compliant.

By raising the level of EpiServer Forms to comply with WCAG 2.1, we ensure that these forms meet the minimum requirements for government agencies in the EU. Today, municipalities, authorities and companies need to replace the views of the forms to comply with the law (which is the minimum level for providing an accessible website).

This requires us to change EpiServer Form Element views to be compliant and follow EU law.

@Mark Demeny & @David Bowen, this has been under investigation for quite some time. Is there any progress on this item?

We have implemented a form in which accessibility is considered, using Optimizely forms. At the same time we have noticed few development improvement ideas while developing accessible form".

    • All form elements error message should have own error message field for screen reader users.

    • All form elements should have support for optional aria-attributes.

Do we use Siteimprove for automated Accessibility checks? They have a super easy PDF checker that shows what's wrong and which PDFs are accessible across the site.

We have done the investigation into the work effort and this will likely be put on the roadmap after the release of CMS 12. I'll note that accessibility is very important to our client base, and we will likely be putting some other efforts into accessibility around content authoring as well within Content Cloud and other parts of the Optimizely platform.

How come we even have to vote on this? Non-compliant forms are illegal in the entire EU... 🤦‍♂️

I agree with this fully. You can see that there was some efforts made some time ago, but a lot of the new code and feature lack this support.
