Eyedropper tool

My wish is to have an eyedropper tool, like in Adobe CS, for picking up text or information. I publish academic articles that contain a large number of references, so the references list/block can be extensive. I add references to the body text from the references block, and very often there are references that are used multiple times in an article. In that case it would have been very useful with an eyedropper tool for repeating the reference instead of searching for it in the reference block list. (Pardon my not so good english.)
