Sadly, that doesn't work on our site - see block in screenshot 1 that shows "reed finder" term, then 2nd screenshot that shows me searching it to no results. Is there anything I can ask our dev team to do to fix this?

this is something that you should be able to do using the "Blocks gadget" in the right and left navigation panel.
You can add gadgets to you side panel using the gear icon in the top right corner of the panel:
