Allow content tracking without pixels

Right now the process for tracking content in CMP is:

  • Make sure the site is running the js snippet

  • Add a publishing channel

  • For each article, structured content or omnichannel content:

    • Publish with the tracking pixel

This last part seems unnecessary to us, and is unique to CMP as an analytics product. Products like ODP or Google Analytics will track page performance without placing individual pixels. I can see where it would be useful if you're syndicating content, but for publishing to your own website it seems unnecessarily complex.

Our proposed solution:

  • Make sure the site is running the js snippet

  • Add a publishing channel

  • For each article, structured content or omnichannel content:

    • Add a url to the content piece (if running on a site with the js installed)

    • OR publish with the tracking pixel
